We heard from you, our fans, about what you missed from the old Starship Farragut web site and tried to bring back as much as we could. Some of our new web content is still in production, so please understand some pages may not be complete. Our goal is to bring back the Starship Farragut Forum this summer, and have a Starship Farragut store. More details about these new features later.

One of the most asked question has been, "Where are the animated episodes?". The animated episodes have always had a separate web page from our live action web page. Also, in the last 2 years, other Farragut related web pages have been introduced such as, My Captain's Blog and Farragut Fest. We now have included a link on our page to "The Farragut Network". This link is the portal to all of the Farragut related web pages out there.

Sadly, some of our news stories from the past 9 years were lost from the old web site. We have brought back as much as we could. All of this info can be found by clicking the News link. 22 May 2013 - Starship Farragut Announces Casting For Its Upcoming Episode

Farragut Films’ next production in the Starship Farragut film series, “Conspiracy of Innocence”, written by Bobby Nash, held an open audition at Farragut Films Studio-2 in Kingsland, Georgia, on February 16th, 2013 to fill several open roles.

29 January 2013 - Open Auditions For Starship Farragut’s Next Episode

The producers of Starship Farragut are holding open auditions Saturday, February 16th, 2013 from 11AM to 2PM.

The episode, “Conspiracy of Innocence” requires actors and extras. Join us -

Saturday, February 16th, 2013 – 11AM to 2PM

You must arrive no earlier than 11:00 and no later than 2:00 in order to get in, but there will be no reserved times to audition. Participants will be taken in the order that they arrive on site. The audition for each person will be filmed for purposes of reviewing and making selections.

The audition will also require a cold reading from a script, which will be given to you at the time of the audition.

28 November 2012 - Visit The Starship Farragut Sets December 8th, 2012!

That’s right – Farragut Films is holding an open-house event in Kingsland, Georgia and everyone is invited! Our yearly open house event is now called, Farragut Fest.

Come and see one of the largest original series Star Trek sets in North America. The open-house is on December 8th. As an added bonus, the Starship Farragut cast and crew will be presenting a very special premiere of the new episode, “The Price Of Anything” at the nearby Camden County High School.

This event is FREE to the public. Open-house begins at 9AM EST and closes at 4PM EST. The premiere starts at the high school at 6PM EST.

08 January 2012 - Starship Farragut and Farragut Films are pleased to announce the release of the Crew Log, "Just Passing Through" for download.

As some of you may know, there were some technical problems with this effort, which prevented us from releasing this production on a larger scale and onto the Internet. Although we followed through and completed the film, it was always our intention to re-film and release “Just Passing Through” as it was meant to be.

This new and final version of the film incorporates lessons learned from the previous version and also adds an exotic location, and a means of continuation to the story of the relationship between Tacket and Smithfield.

29 December 2011 - Farragut Films Adds to Management Team and Secures Largest Studio of Trek Sets

Farragut Films, the film group that produces the award-winning Starship Farragut webseries, announced today the addition of key management members, Vic Mignogna and Steven Dengler. The film group has also secured a larger studio for housing Trek Sets.

Vic Mignogna joined Farragut Films earlier this year to direct Starship Farragut’s fifth live action film, “The Price of Anything.” In his new role as Director of TREK Films, he will be responsible for creative direction and film crew operations of both webseries, Starship Farragut and Star Trek Continues. Mr. Mignogna has over 16 years experience in creative and innovative film production services from concept to realized screen product. His talents include a broad range of professional skills in the entertainment industry, including being one of the most popular voice actors in the industry, an accomplished music composer and producer, actor, writer, director, and producer of film/video projects on all levels.

“After many years of acting and various film work, coupled with my life-long love of Star Trek, I’m excited to join the Farragut Films team. In my opinion, they are the highest quality and reputable people in this business,” said Vic Mignogna.

Steven Dengler, prominent Internet entrepreneur, is co-founder and CEO of the world’s favorite currency site, XE.com. He is also the founder and CEO of Dracogen Strategic Investments, which invests in a number of high-tech and creative ventures. He will be an Executive Producer to both webseries Starship Farragut and Star Trek Continues. Farragut Films’ newest facility, dubbed, “Studio 2”, has 10,000 square feet and is located in Kingsland, Ga., conveniently located off Interstate 95 near the Florida border and only 35 miles north of the Jacksonville International Airport with amenities such as hotels, restaurants, and stores. It is the only place in the world that has the largest studio of Trek Sets. “We’ve completed the move-out from Studio 1 to Studio 2 prior to December and have been progressing to reassemble the existing sets. After that, we will endeavor to complete all the Star Trek sets as displayed almost 50 years ago on the Paramount Pictures’ film lot,” said Mike Bednar, Vice President of Farragut Films.

27 December 2011 - Captain's Chair To Make Convention Appearances In February 2012!

Farragut Films & Starship Farragut are happy to announce that one of our set pieces, the Captain's Chair, will be displayed at two conventions in February 2012. This is the actual chair from the newly completed bridge of the Starship Farragut, constructed by our own Michael Bednar, and is an exact replica of "the chair" once occupied by James T. Kirk of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

The first convention will be Farpoint in Baltimore MD February 17-19, 2012. John Broughton, President of Farragut Films, Executive Producer and star of Starship Farragut, will be making several presentations, with costuming being the main theme. No … it’s not a transporter malfunction (or a typo for that matter).  Starship Farragut is pleased to announce that we will be appearing at both Farpoint 2011 and Trek Trax on February 18th – 20th this year!

We are also pleased to announce that we’ll be making our first appearance at the Trek Trax Convention located in Atlanta, Georgia.  Be sure you don’t miss out on the Starship Farragut panel discussion on Saturday, February 19th from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

28 October 2010 - Starship Farragut’s Open House Event

On Saturday, December 4, 2010 from 10 AM to 4 PM, Farragut Films will be hosting an Open House Event that will be free to the general public to showcase our completed STAR TREK SETS and to officially kick-off our next big film production called, “THE PRICE OF ANYTHING.”  Come sit in the captain’s chair, stand in the transporter room chamber, walk through the ship corridors, hang out in the captain’s quarters, pilot a shuttlecraft, and much more!  Cast and crew from the award-winning web-series, Starship Farragut will be present.  Complimentary DVDs will also be provided and in addition, various costumes and props used in the production of Starship Farragut will be displayed.

• From I-95 take the Kingsland exit (exit 3), and drive south on Hwy 40 to St. Marys.
  

• Once you enter into the city limits, Hwy 40 becomes Osborne St. continue on Osborne into historic St. Marys and turn right at Church St.
  

• Then go immediately left onto a dirt driveway that goes behind the building at the corner of Church and Osborne.
  

• Go about 40 feet back on that driveway and you’ll see the studio on your left. It is a cinderblock building with a chain link fence on the right side of it.

Below are just a few, but are more expensive than the lodging options in Kingsland. However, if you’re looking for Southern charm and ambiance, then St. Marys would be your best bet!

Rent a cabin if you’re ever planning on bringing a group of people with you. You have to call ahead to make reservations, especially during the summer months, but they’re inexpensive, clean, and only a ten minute drive from the studio.

27 September 2010 - Starship Farragut Goes to Hollywood!

Well, Hollywood Xpo that is!

Farragut Films is exhibiting at the Hollywood Xpo in Los Angeles, CA on October 15-17, 2010.

The convention is held at the Universal Studios Hilton Hotel. There are several tracks of programming at the convention, including the "Trek Xpo Track" that has over fifty Star Trek actors appearing on stage to entertain and enlighten in Q&A’s, plus autograph signings, and just plain interacting with the fans.

We will be showing the Starship Farragut films in the “Film Room" at the following dates and times:

Farragut Films and Starship Farragut are exhibiting for their fifth consecutive year at the Shore Leave convention in Hunt Valley, Maryland. Please stop by our table and visit with the cast and crew of Starship Farragut. For this year’s event, we will be showing two back-to-back Starship Farragut: The Animated Episodes, “Power Source” and “The Needs of the Many.” “The Needs of the Many” will be shown in its entirety (Only Acts 1 and 2 were shown at Farpoint earlier this year). 17 May 2010 - Starship Farragut Heads to ConCarolinas!

From June 4-6, 2010, Starship Farragut will be at the ConCarolinas convention in Charlotte, NC. We will be giving out complimentary DVD’s of our productions, including “The captaincy”, “For want of a nail”, “A rock and a hard place”, and our first animated title, “Power Source”. Several props used in our productions will be on display at our tables along with promotional items (posters, photos, costume swatches, patches, etc.).

We are also entered in the ConCarolinas Short Film Festival (see the trailer below).

12 May 2010 - Second Farragut Animated Episode Released

PORTLAND, May 12, 2010 – NEO f/x and Farragut Films today announced the full release of "The Needs of the Many,” the second episode of Starship Farragut, The Animated Episodes. These Farragut animated episodes are the first animated Star Trek to be produced since Filmation wrapped production of the original series in 1974. The episodes are available via the official website www.farragut-animated.com.

"The Needs of the Many" tells the story of Captain John T. Carter and crew of the U.S.S Farragut on route to Cestus III for a secret mission. While there, they meet up with old friends, and a vile enemy looking for revenge. “The Needs of the Many" was written by Michael Struck, manager of the NEO f/x team, and Jack Treviño, an accomplished writer whose credits include the television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, along with other fan-productions such as Star Trek: Of Gods and Men.

“This is a journey that took over two years to complete,” explained Michael Struck. “While I would have liked to have gotten this out sooner, the fans have been very patient with us. I feel with this episode now completed, their patience will have paid off."

“We are both proud and pleased to have worked with the NEO f/x team on bringing the animated version of the Starship Farragut project to life,” stated John Broughton, executive producer of Starship Farragut. “Just as we’ve paid meticulous attention to detail with the sets, costumes, and props to the original series of Star Trek, so does the NEO f/x’s team with the look and feel of Filmation’s animated Star Trek series; we’re proud to be the first independent Star Trek film project to be presented in both live-action and animation."

In addition to the primary actors from the live-action Starship Farragut series, the cast list of "The Needs of the Many" includes Chase Masterson (Leeta on Deep Space Nine), Chris Doohan (son of James Doohan, the original ‘Scotty’), and Vic Mignogna (the voice of Edward Elric on Fullmetal Alchemist). Additional voice talent featured in the episode includes Hetoreyn and Ralph M. Miller.

Behind the scenes, NEO f/x enlisted the assistance of various illustrators and artists, including Hetoreyn for the musical score and Kail Tescar, webmaster of the premiere Star Trek animated series web site startrekanimated.com. Kail is the lead artist as well as the associate producer on the animated episodes.

A watch party is where friends and friends of friends get together online in a chat room and watch a video together. Some may have DVDs. Others may have VHS tapes. Sometimes there is a link to streaming video or file that may be downloaded. Most of the time it is a mixture of them all.

Everyone starts the video at the same time and chats while viewing it. it has been described on FanCentral as Mystery Science Fiction Theater 3000.

23 February 2010 - "The Needs of the Many" Act Two Released

Those who attended the Farpoint Convention in Baltimore, Maryland. got a sneak peek at Act 2 of "The Needs of the Many", the second episode of Starship Farragut-The Animated Episodes. Now, NEO f/x and Farragut Films have released the second act on the internet. It has been made available on YouTube, and through farragut-animated.com.

"The Needs of the Many", written by Michael Struck (Owner, NEO f/x) and Jack Trevino (Writer, DS9), has the crew of the Farragut warping to Cestus III on a secret mission for the Federation. Time will NOT be on Farragut's side for this episode.

Starship Farragut is proud to attend the Farpoint 2010 Convention (http://farpointcon.com) located in Baltimore, Maryland on February 12th – 14th. This year marks the fourth year exhibiting and we’ll be back in full force showcasing props and costumes from our award-winning Internet series. We will be providing promotional giveaways such as signed autographed pictures, patches, costume swatches, and complimentary DVDs of all film efforts, including, “Power Source” the first Starship Farragut: The Animated Episodes adventure (www.farragut-animated.com).

31 December 2009 - Second Animated Release Announced

NEO f/x and Farragut Films will be releasing the first act of "The Needs of the Many", the second episode of Starship Farragut-The Animated Episodes today at 12:00 noon PST.

"The Needs of the Many", written by Michael Struck (Owner, NEO f/x) and Jack Trevino (Writer, DS9), has the crew of the Farragut warping to Cestus III on a secret mission for the Federation. Cestus III is where the U.S.S. Enterprise encountered the Gorn, and as luck would have it, the SAME Gorn is there waiting to exact his revenge on the Federation.

This episode features Tim Russ in a very Vulcan role, Chase Masterson as a relative of Engineer Smithfield, and Chris Doohan taking on a dual role that would make his father proud! Other voice talent includes Ralph Miller, Lou Scheimer, Vic Mignogna and the entire crew of the live action Farragut episodes.

04 December 2009 - Farragut in Chili Cook-off

Starship Farragut will be well represented in the Annual Great Camden County Chili Cook Off and Craft Fair on Saturday, December 5th. This charity event will take place from 11AM to 3PM at Waters Edge Subdivision on Haddock Road in Kingsland, Georgia.

Farragut Films will be working with Kim Watson and the Prudential Magnolia Realty booth, along with their famed, “Out of this World” chili!

Local builder W.H. Gross Construction is hosting the chili cook-off and craft fair to support the Humane Society of Camden County and Habitat for Humanity of Camden County. The chili cook off challenges businesses, restaurants, base commands, clubs, Realtors, schools, organizations, fire stations and individuals to put their most prized chili recipes to the test for charity. Last year's event boasted a range of recipes from the mild to the fiery. Teams of two or more people are invited to register in advance and have their chili scored by local expert judges.

In addition to tasty chili, the event will feature the Homemade for the Holidays Craft Fair. Individuals and groups can register to sell their wares at the event. This offers an opportunity to get a jumpstart on holiday shopping. Santa Claus and his elves will be stopping by too, as well as a Pet Costume Parade and Contest that will take place at 2 pm.

04 Novembetr 2009 - Starship Farragut at Illinois Central College

Farragut Films is going where no fan film production has ever gone before—to college!

In a first-of-its kind event, Farragut Films will conduct a program devoted to independent filmmaking—with Starship Farragut as the centerpiece!  The event will be hosted by Illinois Central College ’s (ICC - http://www.icc.edu/) Adult Community Programming Office and will take place on North Campus ( 5407 N University Street , Peoria , IL ) on Friday, November 20th from 7 to 9 PM at Arbor Auditorium.

The event will feature a screening of Starship Farragut’s 3^rd installment “A Rock and a Hard Place” and a Q & A session with series Executive Producer John Broughton, Producer/Director of Photography Michael Bednar, Producer and Director of HR/Casting Holly Bednar, and Film Director Mark Hildebrand.  The discussion panel will include a wide range of topics pertaining to independent filmmaking, including producing, writing, acting, costuming, prop-making, set construction, and anything else film students and audience members wish to ask.

Farragut Films was invited to lead the event at ICC after English and Language Studies faculty member Ronald Malcolm came across Starship Farragut’s website and was impressed by the quality of our film efforts.  As an instructor of film, Malcolm appreciated the high production values and began an acquaintance with some members of the Farragut team.  Working with Farragut Films, Malcolm incorporated some of the episodes in his film class as part of a “how to” instructional exercise and this segment became an immediate success.  After sharing the results with the Producers, it was decided to take the show on the road and give ICC and Central Illinois the complete Starship Farragut experience!

To complete the experience, the Producers will have a display of props and costumes, and will be giving away complimentary DVDs of Starship Farragut productions.  Be a part of the Starship Farragut adventure and come out to Peoria !

16 October 2009 - Starship Farragut At Utopia Film Festival

Farragut Films has made it into the 2009 Utopia Film Festival with not one, but two Starship Farragut productions!

The festival will take place in and around Greenbelt, Maryland from October 19 to 25.  "For Want of a Nail" will be screened on October 24th at 6 pm at the Academy 14 Stadium Theaters in the Beltway Plaza Mall (6198 Greenbelt Road, Greenbelt, Maryland).  "A Rock and a Hard Place" was selected as well, but will not be screened due to scheduling constraints.

Celebrating its fifth year, the Utopia Film Festival desires passionately to identify, promote and engage entertaining and enlightening cinematic works of all genres and styles. Seeking always to provide its audience and filmmakers an enjoyable experience, this event also pursues works that tackle humanity's never ending quest, in all its variables, for the perfect 'utopian' existence.

Farragut Films is one of several filmmaker groups invited to speak at the festival. We will be at the screening of "For Want of a Nail" to answer questions, display props and costumes.  We will also be giving away complimentary DVDs of our productions.

Starship Farragut will be helping to kick-off St. Marys’ exciting “Hay Days” events with the St. Marys Downtown Merchants’ Annual Scarecrow Stroll.  On Tuesday, October 13th. from 5:00 to 700 p.m., stroll thru the beautiful Historic District and view the scarecrows who are all dressed up to celebrate the Fall Season.  Farragut Films will be well represented with a special Starship Farragut scarecrow!  Come dressed up in your favorite costume (or STAR TREK uniform!) and bring the whole family out for a night of Fall Fun.  Be sure to visit every shop and restaurant for special treats and tell them that “Starship Farragut sent you!”

07 October 2009 - Starship Farragut at Baltimore Comic-Con

Starship Farragut will be exhibiting at the Baltimore Comic Con on October 10^th & 11^th 2009.  The ever-popular comic book convention will be held at the downtown

Baltimore Convention Center .  Our table will be located in the “Artist Alley” – We're table #1, which is a good sign!

We will be providing complimentary DVDs of all our film efforts, including our new animated release, “Power Source.”  This will be a Baltimore Comic-Con exclusive!  In addition, we will have autographed photos, costume swatches, patches, and other promotional items – all for free!  Come meet the cast and crew of the Award-Winning Internet Series!

"Power Source", the first episode of Starship Farragut, The Animated Episodes will be shown at ANIMATION SUPERCON: South Florida's Animation, Cartoon, Anime & Comic Book Festival this weekend.

ANIMATION SUPERCON is a celebration of Animation, Cartoons, Anime & Comic Books featuring guest voice actors, industry guests, cosplayers, artists, writers, panels, Q&A's, films & shorts, costume & cosplay contests, vendors, parties, anime, workshops, video gaming and more. The convention runs October 2 - 4, 2009 at the Doubletree Miami Mart Hotel and Convention Center, 711 NW 72nd Ave, in Miami, Florida.

07 September 2009 - The Re-Filming Of “Just Passing Through”

Last November, the Starship Farragut Producers premiered both “A Rock and a Hard Place” and “Just Passing Through” – two film shorts (referred to as Crew Logs) at the University of Maryland’s Hoff Theater. We’ve only shown “Just Passing Through” there, as well as a few rare convention screenings.

As some of you may know, there were some technical problems with this effort, which prevented us from releasing this production on a larger scale and onto the Internet. Although we followed through and completed the film, it was always our intention to re-film and release “Just Passing Through” as it was meant to be.

We’re proud to announce that starting on Saturday, October 17th we will be filming this video short again. The majority of actors from the previous version of “Just Passing Through” have already committed to the re-filming of this project. Mark Hildebrand has signed onboard as Director with Eric Lund as Assistant Director. 23 August 2009 - Dragon*Con - 2009

Starship Farragut will be attending Dragon-Con 2009 this year for the first time during Labor Day weekend (September 4 – September 7, 2009) in Atlanta, GA.

Dragon-Con is the largest multi-media and pop culture convention that focuses on science fiction and fantasy. As it relates to those areas, it extends itself to films, TV shows, gaming, comics, literature, art and music. For Dragon-Con, TrekTrak is its Star Trek convention segment and is devoted to Star Trek in all its various forms. They celebrate the original Star Trek, the animated series, the motion pictures, The Next Generation, and the other TV spin-offs. TrekTrak provides fan programming with its wide variety of guest panels, discussion topics and presentations.

This year, Starship Farragut will be on the TrekTrak programming circuit and presenting our award-winning episode, “A Rock and a Hard Place” and “Power Source” – first ever, animated version of the live action series (filmed in the same Filmation style of Star Trek from the 1970’s and spearheaded by Farragut Films’ partner, NEO f/x), which will be shown for the first publicly in its entirety. Dawn Cowings, member of the Starship Farragut team and known from Star Wars: Revelations, Pitching Lucas, and TRENCHES fame, will be representing our group and entertaining discussions. Starship Farragut will be exhibiting at CREATION’s The Official STAR TREK Convention - East Coast.  The convention will be held at the Hilton Parsippany on Friday, July 31 through Sunday, August 2nd, 2009.

03 June 2009 - Starship Farragut Brings Home "Best Fan Film" Again!

Starship Farragut, an independent film project based on the original series of Star Trek, won “Best Fan Film of 2009” at the Wrath of Con science fiction conference and film festival in Panama City Beach, Florida. Starship Farragut won the award for its latest film, “A Rock and a Hard Place,” and last year, won the same award for its second film, “For Want of a Nail.”

Film Synopsis: Captain Carter (John Broughton), despite objections from Chief Engineer Smithfield (Holly Bednar), decides to go on a planetary survey mission with an old flame. Things are not as they seem, and they soon realize that they're not the only ones interested in the planet.

The film also features noteworthy performances by D.D. Hatcher (Lt. Commander Bishop), Eddie Lao (Klingon Borok), and Jamie Hanna (Klingon Commander). Farragut Films also gives special acknowledgements to Director Mark Hildebrand, Assistant Director Eric Lund, Director of Photography Michael Bednar, original musical score by Hetoreyn, sound by Bill Bame and Ralph Miller, and visual effects and CGI by NEO f/x.

“We’re honored to have been selected as Best Fan Film of 2009,” said John Broughton, creator and Executive Producer of the series. “This film has outstanding special effects, the debut of a full-scale shuttlecraft interior set, and fight scenes choreographed by renowned Hollywood stunt choreographer, Leslie Hoffman. With each film effort, we explore new filmmaking aspects with the goal of bringing Classic Trek…Now.”

Mike Bednar, Vice President of Farragut Films and Producer of the Starship Farragut project attended the event, stating, “The fan friendly approach to this project clearly differentiates us from other Internet film projects. We’re constantly receiving fan adulation for the quality of our film efforts and for providing the films for free.” Farragut’s 17-minute episode competed against other fan films at the three-day convention and film festival.

28 May 2009 - Farragut Sets Course For Sunny Florida!

The course is plotted and laid in, as Starship Farragut prepares to revisit The Wrath of Con Science Fiction Convention and Film Festival in Panama City Beach, Florida this weekend.

Starting this Friday, May 29th, producers Michael and Holly Bednar, and associate producer Michael Day will be on hand to give away complimentary DVDs of “The Captaincy” and “For Want of a Nail” (which won the Best Fan Film award at last year’s Wrath of Con), and the recently released Crew Log “A Rock and a Hard Place,” which was entered in this year’s film festival. Several props used in our productions will be on display, and they will also be giving away numerous promotional items (posters, autographed photos, costume swatches, patches, etc.).

Chase Masterson and Tim Russ are slated as guests, and they contributed their voices to Starship Farragut: The Animated Episodes (http://www.farragutanimated.com) to be released later this year. J.G. Hertzler of Deep Space Nine will also be there.

01 May 2009 - Starship Farragut Makes European Debut

Starship Farragut will make its European Debut this weekend at FEDCON XVIII in Bonn, Germany. FEDCON is the largest Star Trek and Sci-Fi Media Event (http://www.fedcon.de/index_en.php) in Europe.

First on the program, the Award-Winning "For Want of a Nail" at noon on Friday, May 1st. Mark Hildebrand, Director and Writer, will be on hand to discuss the film and answer questions. He will also show the new trailer for "Power Source" (part of Starship Farragut's The Animated Episodes (an animated version of the live action series, which is being spearheaded by NEO f/x, and will be released soon) and an assortment of bloopers from both "For Want of a Nail" and last year's "A Rock and a Hard Place." During all three days of the event, Mark will be giving away DVDs and displaying props used during the various film efforts of Starship Farragut.

28 April 2009 - Star Trek IMAX Premiere Event

Farragut Films is participating with Regal Cinemas to promote the new STAR TREK movie on May 8th, 9th, and 10th in Richmond, VA at their newest IMAX Theater. It will be a mini-con of sorts in their lobby with Starship Farragut, NASA, Kellogg's Cereal, a group called SOLAR GUARD (ex-chemists who do rocket projects), USS Chesapeake (local Star Trek Fan Club) and our friendly neighborhood Klingon group - IKV Bat'leth (Klingons used in STARSHIP FARRAGUT's pilot episode, THE CAPTAINCY).

06 April 2009 - Power Source Trailer Released

NEO f/x (in association with Farragut Films) has released a trailer for "Power Source", written by Thomas J. Scott. This is the first installment of a special, 2-episode release of Starship Farragut, The Animated Episodes.  These new episodes are the first animated Star Trek to be produced since Filmation wrapped production of the original series in 1974.

About the episode:

Captain Carter and the USS Farragut (NCC-1647) are dispatched to search for the USS Azrael (NCC-517) under the command of Captain Glenn, only to find that they may be the ones being searched for.

30 March 2009 - Farragut Announces Open House

WASHINGTON, DC, March 30, 2009 — Starship Farragut announced the hosting of an Open House Event on April 17th from 10 AM to 4 PM at its new filming studio just off the corner of Church and Osborne Streets in St. Marys, Georgia. This event is open to the general public and will be a great opportunity to mingle with the cast and crew of Starship Farragut, as well as other fans and enthusiasts from all over the country and be among the first to see Farragut Films’ new soundstage and sets. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony with VIPs of the Historic St. Marys’ community and set tours of the Starship Farragut. Attendees will be able to stand in the transporter room, sit in the Captain’s chair or at the Helm/Navigation console, climb aboard the shuttlecraft, walk into a turbolift, and sneak into the Captain’s quarters. There will be photo opportunities and autographs with the actors, so bring your cameras. Refreshments will be available for a nominal donation to help defray costs.

In addition to the media and press being at the event, we have confirmed attendance of Star Trek celebrity, Leslie Hoffman. A self-described, “Original Trekkie,” she has worked as a stuntwoman in Hollywood for over 30 years, and has worked on both Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek Voyager. The attendance of other Star Trek celebrities still being confirmed as of the date of this official statement.

Last year, Starship Farragut’s second film, “For Want of a Nail” won “Best Fan Film of 2008” at the Wrath of Con film festival in Panama City Beach, Florida. 24 March 2009 - Starship Farragut Alumni Perform in Theatrical Production

During the span of March 6 – March 15, several Starship Farragut alumni performed in a play called, “Back of the Throat.”  Written by Yusef El Gundi, this production was performed by Dignity Players (http://www.uuca-md.org/dignity_players/index.html) at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, Maryland.  Mickey Handwerger (Caterer to Starship Farragut) directed the thought-provoking production while Mark Hildebrand (Producer and actor of Starship Farragut) gave a riveting performance as the lead Government official.  Becki Placella, who has already acted in a yet-to-be released, non-Starship Farragut production by Farragut Films, acted in a supporting role with Eric Lund (Associate Producer and actor of Starship Farragut) providing fight choreography work.  Also worth mentioning are Chris Haley’s performance (nephew of ROOTS author, Alex Haley), Pete Garvey’s terrorist portrayal and Alicia Sweeney’s role as the exotic dancer.

Back of the Throat is the tale of a visit by two government officials (Mark Hildebrand and Dan Kavanaugh), which soon devolves into a full-blown, no-holds-barred probe. Khaled, an Arab-American writer (Chris Haley) and the focus of their inquiry, finds himself suddenly accused of possible ties to terrorists. As the interrogation proceeds, the officials reveal their evidence. But is it evidence, or have innocent events been distorted through the lens of paranoid suspicion? Back of the Throat confronts bureaucratic euphemisms like “person of interest” and “extraordinary rendition” with the frightening reality they aim to obscure.

After viewing the play, John Broughton, Executive Producer of the Starship Farragut Internet Series said, “Seeing Mark perform in this role was surreal.  Initially, I was watching my friend perform on stage - a second later; I’m watching this incredible character come to life with total buy-in and belief. I’m impressed with the amount of dialogue he had to learn for this role; most impressive.  Regarding the production itself, John added, “This fast-paced production captivates the audience with the premise of Patriot Act abuse in this post-9/11 era.  This compelling story demonstrates how perceptions can be wrongfully misinterpreted with people acting in the best interest of America and how their rights are trampled in pursuit of information.  The play’s conclusion leaves you wondering if the victim of having his rights stepped on was actually a victim of happenstance and part of a terrorist’s plot after all.”

01 March 2009 - Animated Episodes Get New Web Site

PORTLAND, March 1, 2009 – NEO f/x and Farragut Films today opened their new web site for the special, 2-episode release of Starship Farragut, The Animated Episodes. These new episodes are the first animated Star Trek to be produced since Filmation wrapped production of the original series in 1974. The website is available online at www.farragutanimated.com.

The two episodes chronicle the adventures of the U.S.S. Farragut, commanded by John T. Carter, and take place during what would have been fourth season of Star Trek. The U.S.S Farragut is a sister ship to the legendary Enterprise commanded by James T. Kirk. The first episode to be released, “Power Source”, was written by Thomas J. Scott, an accomplished writer and president of Magique Productions, LTD. The second episode to be released was penned by Michael Struck and Jack Treviño (co-writer of two Deep Space Nine episodes), and is entitled “The Needs of the Many”.

“The new web site complements the animated episodes with special downloads and biographies on the actors involved with this production,” explained Michael Struck, manager of the NEO f/x team. “In addition, when the episodes are released, the web site will act as a central location to download and watch the individual acts.”

In addition to the primary actors from the live-action Starship Farragut series, the cast list includes celebrities with ties to science fiction, anime and Star Trek: Chase Masterson (Leeta on Deep Space Nine) will be the primary guest star in “The Needs of the Many”, with Tim Russ (Tuvok on Voyager) making a special appearance. Chris Doohan (son of James Doohan, the original ‘Scotty’) will be voicing two characters his father made famous in the original series. In addition, some of the secondary males characters are being voiced by Vic Mignogna (the voice of Edward Elric on Fullmetal Alchemist). Additional voice talent featured in the episodes will include Hetoreyn, Jason LeBlanc, and Ralph M. Miller.

Behind the scenes, NEO f/x enlisted the assistance of various illustrators and artists, including Hetoreyn for the musical score and Kail Tescar, webmaster of the premiere Star Trek animated series web site startrekanimated.com. Kail is the lead artist as well as the associate producer on the two animated Farragut episodes. and will also be releasing a comic book version of Starship Farragut.

"Power Source" is slated to be released by the end May 2009, with the comic book and second episode being released by the end of 2009.

27 Feb 2009 - Farpoint 2009 Convention February 13-15, 2009

Fresh Faces, Old Friends, and a New Place

This year at Farpoint, the convention was held a few exits closer to the I-695 beltway at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Baltimore, MD.  A new forum, the closer containment of special guests, participants, dealers, and exhibitors provided much more interaction with people.  The guests for the convention were Alan Tudyk ("Wash" from the Firefly/Serenity series), Harve Bennett (Producer of Star Trek movies II - V), and Phil Weyland (Actor, Double, & Dialogue Coach, Star Trek movies I - VII).

Representing for its third year, Starship Farragut provided numerous DVDs, autographed cast shots, patches, uniform swatches, buttons and candy.  We are continually commented on “most fan friendly” towards our audience, a comment we take great pride in.  SF Producers participated in forums discussing fan films and costume development.  The Farpoint CON provides a good opportunity for us to meet our existing fan base, as well as meet and educate new fans about our series.  Of special note, we met two highly-enthusiastic fans of both STAR TREK and STARSHIP FARRAGUT.  In addition, we met with old friends Jim Pugliese (http://www.mutara.net/Collective/index.html) (Jim is pictured above modeling with SF Producer Mike Bednar’s Studio-Scale Klingon D-7 Battlecruiser), Steve Guminski (www.scifigeek.info), Frank & Gina Hernandez (http://www.elysianvisions.com/Gina/) and many more.

SF Producers chatted away with the folks from Browncoats: Redemption (http://browncoatsmovie.com/).  Steve Fisher (Producer) and Michael Dougherty (Writer/Director) discussed fan films and the business side of filmmaking.  They are planning to commence filming on April 4th and their project is most promising.  They’ve come a long way in such a short timeframe.  In addition, SF Producers talked with the folks from Robot Martini – a comic book series that makes light of SCI-FI (www.robotmartini.com).  Gavin Schmitt (President and CEO) interviewed Holly Bednar, Mike Bednar and John Broughton for his blog.

Lastly, TRENCHES, a high-quality film developed exclusively for the Internet, was premiered at the Farpoint CON.  It was directed by Shane Felux and produced by X-Ile Pictures for Stage 9 Digital. Shane is the husband of Starship Farragut’s own, Dawn Cowings.  John Broughton, Executive Producer described TRENCHES, “…like ALIENS, but more intense.  The ending has you wanting more and leaves a story arc open for more films.  Well done.”

12 February 2009 - Prescott Transfers to the USS Enterprise

The character of Henry Prescott is moving to New Voyages / Phase 2 to serve aboard the USS Enterprise. Originally created by John Broughton and Paul Sieber, Prescott was Chief of Security on the USS Farragut and was featured in two Starship Farragut adventures – “The Captaincy” and “For Want of a Nail.”

John Broughton, Executive Producer of Starship Farragut says he enjoyed creating the character with Paul. “We wanted Prescott to be a dedicated military man, with elements of General Patton and Tackleberry from Police Academy. His dedication to his job caused him to sacrifice a social life, and made him somewhat awkward. Paul played Prescott by-the-book, and added an element of humor to the character. When Paul announced he was moving to Phase 2, we knew that we couldn’t cast anyone else in that role. We wish him and Phase 2 the best on their adventures together.”

Paul stepped down as a producer early last year, citing family and other commitments. In July, it was announced that he was joining the cast of New Voyages / Phase 2 to play the character of Will Decker.

Although Starship Farragut and New Voyages / Phase 2 are independent of one another, both production companies have collaborated on sets, props and costumes. Now some of the actors and characters will be crossing over, with several former New Voyages / Phase 2 actors planned for upcoming Farragut projects. More details will be announced as we move forward.

04 February 2009 - Farragut Films' New Executive Assistant

Farragut Films is pleased to announce the addition of Michael Day as Executive Assistant.

In this capacity, Michael will be involved numerous administrative duties for executive management, to include relieving senior management of administrative detail, update and track delegated tasks to ensure progress to deadlines, maintain Farragut Films’ procedures manual to ensure updates are consistent with the company’s quality management system, compose correspondence/reports for President’s signature, conduct research and provide information summaries, assist with business appointments and meetings, and assure discreet handling of all business activities.

“In a short time, Michael has more than proven his worth to the Farragut Films organization,” said Holly Bednar, Associate Producer and Director of Casting and HR.  “With the many exciting projects ahead, his dedication and organizational skills will enhance senior management’s ability to ensure 2009 is a successful year.”

Michael’s current job with the Montgomery County Public Schools as a Media Assistant has varied in job responsibilities over the 20 years employed. Some of these responsibilities include, but are not limited to network administrator, computer repair technician, video editor, video photography, and web page design. Another responsibility is teaching computer animation as an after school class for students in grades 1-5. This class is taught in the summer and is sponsored by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

Relevant to Farragut Films, his other media related experience has been through the ownership of a video rental business.  This business was started in the early 1980’s, which branched out into video photography and editing videos for home use. This work included transfers of photos to videotape, running animations for clients, editing 8mm and videotape movies, and filming special events.

20 January 2009 - Starship Farragut Announces New Home Port

Starship Farragut announced the securing of a location for its permanent sets located in historic St.Marys, Georgia; an area right on the border of Georgia and Florida nearby to Interstate 95 and 30minutes away from Jacksonville International Airport.

“We are so pleased to have a place to build our sets and leave them up indefinitely,” said John Broughton, Executive Producer. “Typically when we film, we build the sets, transport and assemble them at a separate location, film, tear-down, and then store them. Now, we can also build the more complex sets that require a permanent place such as the iconic bridge and transporter room, and not have to worry about teardown and storage. Achieving this milestone will be a breakout year for Starship Farragut as it opens up more avenues for us. We welcome St. Marys, Georgia as Starship Farragut’s new homeport. Speaking of homeports, it’s uncanny that the U.S. naval ship bearing our namesake, the U.S.S. Farragut (DDG-99) is homeported in nearby Jacksonville, Florida!”

Farragut Films, the film company that produces Starship Farragut, researched extensively for a building in the Greater Washington, DC area; however, the size requirements and accompanying leasing options made it cost prohibitive for the non-profit project to house permanent sets. Therefore, other locations outside the Greater Washington, DC area were considered focusing on the East Coast. Realtor Kimberly Watson identified the W.H. Gross Construction Company, which was able to work with Farragut’s requirements and provide a building conducive to its filming needs. Holly Bednar, Farragut’s Associate Producer, led the effort to obtain the building. She commented, “The hospitality of both Kimberly Watson and Bill Gross, President of W.H. Gross Construction Company, has been extraordinary and the establishment of our permanent sets is a huge milestone for Starship Farragut.”

17 January 2009 - Starship Farragut Remembers Ricardo Montalban
Ricardo Montalban: 1920 - 2009

Ricardo Montalban, who played the genetically engineered super human - Khan Noonien Singh in the Original Star Trek series episode "Space Seed", and later reprised the role in the early 1980's in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, passed away on January 14th, 2009 at the age of 88.

Montalban died in his Los Angeles home of complications related to old age, said his son-in-law, Gilbert Smith.

Outside the Star Trek universe, Montalban was best known to television audiences as the faintly mysterious, white-suited Mr. Roarke, the host of  "Fantasy Island". On this tropical island resort, visitors had the opportunity to live out their fantasies — usually at the unexpected expense of a difficult life lesson.  The show ran from 1978 to 1984.

Montalban had been a star in Mexican movies when MGM brought him to Hollywood in 1946. He was cast in the leading role opposite Esther Williams in "Fiesta," and starred again with the swimming beauty in "On an Island with You" and "Neptune's Daughter."

He appeared as a Japanese kabuki actor in "Sayonara" and an Indian in "Cheyenne Autumn".  His other films included "Madame X," "The Singing Nun," "Sweet Charity," "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" and "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes."

Montalban had coined a cultural catchphrase as the celebrity spokesman for mid-1970s models of the Chrysler Cordoba. He unwittingly opened himself up to endless imitation when he described the car's optional seats as being "available in soft, Corinthian leather."

He had been confined to a wheelchair in recent years, in nearly constant pain from a congenital condition that affected his spine. But he was philosophical about his suffering.  "My acting ability, what I have achieved in my life, I think has grown because of the physical pain," he said.

A deeply spiritual man, Montalban once said that the guiding force in his life was his Catholic faith. In 1998, Pope John Paul II made him a Knight Commander of St. Gregory, the highest honor bestowed upon non-clergy in the Roman Catholic Church.

Also in 1988, then-Mexican President, Miguel de la Madrid, gave Montalban the Recognition of Merit award, the highest honor bestowed on Mexican civilians, for his work helping to raise more than $10 million after the Mexico City earthquake.

From 1965 to 1970, Montalban was vice president of the Screen Actors Guild, which gave him a life achievement award in 1993.

He is survived by two daughters, Laura Montalban and Anita Smith; two sons, Mark Montalban and Victor Montalban; and six grandchildren.

Majel Barrett Roddenberry: 1932 - 2008

The First Lady of Star Trek Passes On

LOS ANGELES, CA (December 18, 2008) – Actress Majel Barrett Roddenberry, beloved star of sci-fi phenomenon Star Trek passed away early this morning surrounded by family and friends. Roddenberry was 76 years old. She began her acting career in the 1950's with roles in such popular shows as "Leave it to Beaver," "Bonanza" and "The Lucy Show; but it was her numerous roles in the legendary Star Trek franchise that fans came to know and love her. Roddenberry had featured roles in almost every Star Trek television and film entity and became an iconic figure within the fan community. Her roles included Nurse Chapel in Star Trek: The Original Series, Lwaxana Troi in Star Trek: The Next Generation and the voice of the USS Enterprise computer in almost every incarnation of the series. However, it was the love affair between her and the late Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry that earned her the title "The First Lady of Star Trek." Over the course of their more then quarter-century love affair, she became not only Gene's partner, but also his creative muse. Roddenberry helped Gene expand the Star Trek universe and was an integral part of its continued legacy after his death.  Majel recently completed reprising her role as the voice of the USS Enterprise for J.J. Abrams' new Star Trek film.

Roddenberry succumbed to a short battle with Leukemia at 12:27 AM on December 18 in her Bel-Air home. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her son Rod Roddenberry and family friends. She is survived by her only son Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry Jr. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the CARE Organization or Precious Paws both of which share Roddenberry's love for animals and dedication to animal rescue.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of meeting her several times at conventions. The last time I met her was in 2006 at the GRAND SLAM CON. Rodd brought me over to personally introduce me to his Mom. I shared with her our Series Trailer on a portable DVD player, which she saw the humble beginnings of STARSHIP FARRAGUT. As she was watching it, I mentioned that I believed Gene would be proud of our efforts - she quickly corrected me on this - stating, "I know Gene would have." She further complimented us on the quality, and it meant a lot for her to say these things. Rodd further shared how Gene would be proud of those spearheading independent film efforts - praising the innovative spirit of those keeping Gene's vision alive."

"On behalf of everyone involved in Starship Farragut - we extend our wishes and condolences to Rodd on the death of his Mom. Although our star has died, she still shimmers on and will not be forgotten!"

A memorial service will be held in Los Angeles, California on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at 10:00 AM. No photography or videography will be allowed.

While the Roddenberry Family appreciates your kind wishes and wants to share the celebration of Majel Roddenberry's life with all that knew and loved her, they ask that you respect this time of mourning and their privacy after the service.

10 December 2008 - A 'Rockin'  Release

Starship Farragut's 2nd Crew Log will be Released on Friday - 12/12/08

Farragut Films in Association with NEO f/x is proud to announce the first release in the "Starship Farragut: Crew Logs" series of short films. The Crew Log entitled "A Rock and a Hard Place" will be released on Friday, December 12th at 9:00 AM (Eastern time).

"A Rock and a Hard Place" entails action and adventure.  “For some time, I wanted to see Jack Carter in action, as well as show his romantic side.  A light-hearted story, this short provides both – as well as some incredible CGI effects, fight scenes and good direction,” said John Broughton, Executive Producer of the Starship Farragut project.

A seventeen-minute vignette, this short was directed by Award-Winning Director Mark Hildebrand with stunt choreography being led by Hollywood alumnus, Leslie Hoffman.  It showcases Captain Carter and a new character to the series, Dr. Angela Bishop (played by D.D. Hatcher). It's a romantic comedy, full of action and adventure. The premise:  Captain Carter, despite objections from Chief Engineer Smithfield, decides to go on a planetary survey mission with an old flame; but they soon realize that they are not the only ones interested in the rocks.

On a subtle level, you can relate to this story from the perspective of a teenager going out on a date, borrowing the family car, getting a lecture from his parent, and then getting into some trouble after not heeding his parent’s advice!

Both crew logs ("Just Passing Through" and "A Rock and a Hard Place") were premiered together on November 22nd at the University of Maryland's Hoff Theater - keeping with Farragut Films' goal of producing two films a year.  Setting another independent Star Trek film first, Starship Farragut debuts it's shuttlecraft Hartford, an interior set that is a highly detailed and accurate replica of the original Galileo shuttlecraft.

Starship Farragut recently premiered their latest adventures, dubbed "Crew Logs", to a live audience at the University of Maryland's Hoff Theater.  In attendance was Fred Dixon, a correspondent for the "Orion Press" web site.

We're certainly glad that Fred was able to attend the premiere, where he had a chance to mingle with the cast and crew, as well as get an advanced look at the latest productions from Farragut Films.  We also thank him for his honest opinion and appraisal of our work, along with the entire staff at Orion Press for their objectivity and their support.

24 November 2008 - Starship Farragut’s Premiere of the Crew Logs

Despite the proximity of Thanksgiving weekend, cold weather and hard economic times; the premiere of Starship Farragut’s Crew Logs – "Just Passing Through" and "A Rock And A Hard Place" was held at the University of Maryland's Hoff Theater.  Not even the University’s home football game against Florida State, which made parking a challenge, could stop the fans and general public from seeing Farragut Films’ latest film efforts!  Folks traveled great distances to attend – from as far as Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia.

"Just Passing Through" conveyed some genuine romantic and light-hearted comedic moments between Chief Engineer Smithfield and First Officer Tacket. The chemistry between the two actors comes off nicely and alludes to future romantic storylines in the Starship Farragut project’s series.  Cherise Rosemond and Jamie Hanna also delivered some memorable moments in this first crew log.

Fans were ecstatic with "A Rock And A Hard Place", a film which the cast and crew referred to as one of the most pleasant filming experiences to date.  In addition, many of the premiere attendees commented favorably on Farragut Films’ newest actress – D.D. Hatcher who plays the loveable LCDR Bishop.  Other comments from the audience included high praise for the  CGI/special effects, the shuttlecraft set, and the fight sequences between Captain Carter and the Klingons.  The two short films were enthusiastically received and were praised as welcome additions to the Starship Farragut series.

After the showing of both films, a blooper reel from "A Rock And A Hard Place" was shown, as well as a teaser trailer of the upcoming animated version of the live action series – STARSHIP FARRAGUT, THE ANIMATED EPISODES.

The premiere event concluded with a discussion about upcoming plans for the Starship Farragut project followed by an awards ceremony. In recognition for their time and efforts in the production of the Crew Logs, the Farragut Films' "Outstanding Contributions Award" was presented to the following members of the cast and crew:

Award-Winning Director, Mark Hildebrand received a special award for his role as Director of Finance for Farragut Films.  In addition to an award plaque, Mark was provided with Sobon Estate’s signature wine autographed by Winemaker and Vineyard Manager, Paul Sobon.

Following the premiere event, 40 of the attendees went to the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant for a buffet style dinner and cocktails.  Cast, crew, fans, and premiere attendees were able to mingle, catch up, and chat.  It was a ‘Fun-Filled Farragut’ event!

17 November 2008 - Lifting Elevations: Turbolift Construction

Construction on our newest set, the Turbolift, began months ago with the basic structure of the walls.  The wall panels were constructed and assembled in Cincinnati, Ohio by John Broughton Sr., our director of set construction.

When the wall panels were ready to be picked up, John Broughton, our executive producer, and Michael Bednar took a road trip from the D.C. area to his dad’s house to paint them and transport them back to Maryland.  Once they got the panels home, Michael began the painstaking task of adding the familiar details in the hopes of creating a believable representation of a piece of Trek cannon.

It is no small task to recreate those familiar surroundings based on screen shots from DVD’s, but if you have seen our shuttlecraft interior and the console that Michael detailed, you would already know that his work speaks for itself . 

This particular set will be an open filming set, not your standard enclosed phone booth type; It has plenty of room for not only the actors, but also a film crew to work in as well.

The molding was cut and painted and the handles began to take shape.  With one more week left before filming Michael still had a few things to complete.   As a final touch, buttons were applied and it was all looking great.

09 November 2008 - Sets Under Construction In Cincinnati

Our next Crew Log will be “Hair of the Dog,” written and directed by Mark Hildebrand.  The Farragut crew has some time on their hands during a refit in space dock, and discover how a case of Aldeberan Whiskey is linked to an intergalactic medical crisis almost a decade in the past.  The script has been finalized and filming will begin in early 2009.

Mark recently visited the location where three of the sets will be constructed and filmed, and found that John Broughton Sr. has made significant progress.  His workshop, located in the Cincinnati metro area, has a large front room perfectly suited for our needs.  Mr. Broughton showed Mark the wall panels that will be used for the Recreation Deck and Crew Quarters aboard the Farragut, and the Cargo Transporter Room on Starbase Seven.  They discussed the logistics of using the same room for all three sets, and converting them for the proposed order of filming.  The cargo transporter console has already been built my Mr. Broughton, and Michael Bednar is currently working on the control panels, lights and other details.  The desk and shelves for Chief Galway’s quarters on Starbase Seven are in place and ready to go.

Mr. Broughton’s workshop is filled with an assortment of carvings and wooden items created on his lathe.  His creations range from artistic and fantastical faces that emerge from chunks of wood and dried sweet potatoes to practical candle holders and ornaments made of a variety of wood and golf balls.  Retirement is turning out to be a full-time job!

02 November 2008 - Farragut Profile – John Broughton Sr., Director of Set Construction

Farragut Films’ set construction falls within the responsibility of John Broughton, Sr. He oversees the execution of set construction from blueprints and measurements provided. Designing, planning, and re-engineering something to be made has always intrigued John Sr. His experience goes back to 1964 while he was in high school. He remodeled a basement room at his parent’s house. Later, when he was married, he completely remodeled his house, as well as subsequent homes.

John Sr. describes wood-working as keeping his mind active. In 1986, when his father was President of the Cincinnati Carvers Guild, his father purchased John Sr.’s membership in the club and gave him a carving knife. When he finished his first carving (a snake letter-opener made of cedar), he was hooked on carving. Twenty years later, John Sr. followed in his father’s footsteps and became President of the club. Soon after, John Sr. joined the Cincinnati Woodworkers Club and the Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild. Working with wood and all aspects of it seems to be his calling in life.

He has built numerous Star Trek-related props used in the show, as well as our sets (e.g., ship corridor, turbolift, shuttlecraft, transporter console, crew cabin, Captain’s Quarters). His workshop alone is large enough to put the bridge set in it! John Sr. has a plethora of tools ranging from a wood planer, two wood lathes, band saw, table saw, jigsaw, drill press, belt sander, router, and an assortment of hand tools (circular saw, drill, hand sander, etc.). John Sr. possesses the necessary woodworking equipment, as well as the knowledge and expertise for Farragut Films’ set construction. In addition to building Starships, John Sr. also plays the recurring character of the cantankerous Commodore Broughton!

30 October 2008 - Starship Farragut Attends the ST-OGAM Hollywood Premiere

On October 10, 2008, John Broughton, Executive Producer of Starship Farragut, attended the Hollywood premiere of "STAR TREK - OF GODS AND MEN". The film was shown on the big screen at the Fine Arts Theatre located in Beverly Hills, CA.

A celebration of Star Trek's 40+ years, the feature length movie showcased many of Star Trek's alumni, starring, most notably, Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) and Walter Koenig (Chekov) of the original series, as well as Alan Ruck reprising his role as Captain John Harriman from "STAR TREK GENERATIONS". Other alumni from Classic Trek consisted of Grace Lee Whitney (Yeoman Janice Rand) and the actors that played T'Pring and Stonn from the episode, "Amok Time." Other actors from Star Trek's spin-offs include, Tim Russ (Tuvok from "Voyager"), Gary Graham (Ambassador Soval from "ENTERPRISE"), Garrett Wang (Harry Kim from "Voyager"), J.G. Hertzler (from "Deep Space Nine" and "ENTERPRISE") and Chase Masterson (the lovely Leeta from "Deep Space Nine").

At the event, John was able to spend quality time with Chris Doohan (James Doohan's son - pictured to the left), Ralph Miller (responsible for post production work involving sound - Ralph works on all if the Star Trek film efforts), Sky Conway (Producer of ST-OGAM), Michael Struck (post production work for Farragut's film efforts), Justin Durban (Musical Composer of ST-OGAM), Scott Moody and Jeff Quinn of "Star Trek New Voyages".

Congratulations and warm thanks to Sky Conway, Tim Russ, Ethan Calk, Jack Trevino, Peter Christian, Michael Struck and the countless others who made this film possible!

14 October 2008 - "Revelations" Writer Joins Starship Farragut

Dawn Cowings isn't sure when her love for film started but 1977 – the summer she saw "Star Wars" over two hundred times – is a pretty good guess.  Her father, himself a sci-fi fan, made sure she also had a good grounding in classic "Star Trek".

Dawn graduated Iowa State University with a BA in television and film but creative endeavors were put on hold as the need to pay rent took priority. Fast forward to 2002, when husband Shane Felux challenged her to "live the dream" and write a short "Star Wars" fan film for him to direct.  "Short" grew "long" and creating "Star Wars: Revelations" became an incredible experience beyond anything they could have imagined.  The wildly popular 47-minute film rekindled Dawn's love of film and stretched her to her limits: in addition to writing, producing, and co-directing, she also served as costumer, caterer, and more.

Since then, there's been no looking back.  Dawn collaborated with Shane and X-ile Pictures on the award winning “Pitching Lucas” as well as co-writing the upcoming internet series “Trenches”.  She's looking forward to working with the crew of Farragut Films and sharing her talents with them on many exciting projects.

Dawn Cowings lives in Bristow, Virginia with her actor/director husband Shane Felux and their three sons, all of whom think it's perfectly normal to be babysat by Imperial Stormtroopers and that everyone knows Darth Vader personally.

08 October 2008 - "Starship Farragut: Crew Logs" Premiere Announcemnet!

Both Starship Farragut Crew Logs - "JUST PASSING THROUGH" and "A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE" will be premiered as a double feature to our fans for FREE at the University of Maryland's Hoff Theater on November 22, 2008 at 4 PM.

In addition, we will have a small presentation with awards, as well as the showing of a new teaser trailer of the Animated Episodes, and bloopers for both Crew Logs.  To attend the FREE premiere at the Hoff Theater, please email Holly Bednar at hbednar@starshipfarragut.com , and include the number of guests in your party.

CREW LOG SYNOPSES:

"Just Passing Through" is a comedic tale of how Engineer Smithfield and First Officer Tacket first meet and become romantically involved.  This first Crew Log takes place five years in the past when CDR Tacket is 'passing through' at Starbase 12.

The second Crew Log, "A Rock and a Hard Place" entails action and adventure - Captain Carter, despite objections from Engineer Smithfield, decides to go on a planetary survey mission with an old flame.  Are they the only ones interested in the rocks?

After the show, you are welcome to join the cast and crew at the 94th Aero Squadron for dinner and cocktails.  Located next to the College Park Airport, it is only minutes from the Hoff Theater and there is plenty of free parking.  The cost is $40.00 per person, which includes a buffet dinner and cash bar.

Don LaFontaine: 1940 - 2008

A Hollywood Legend Passes On

Voice-over great Don LaFontaine passed away on September 1, 2008 at the age of 68.

Over the past 25 years, LaFontaine cemented his position as the "King of Voice-overs." Aside from his continuing work in the trailer industry, he has also been the voice of NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox and UPN, in addition to TNT, TBS and the Cartoon Network. Earlier in his career, he worked at Paramount Pictures and headed their trailer department, lending his voice to many of their film trailers, including Star Trek films.  He would later become a VP at Paramount.  But it was his love for producing film efforts and doing voiceover work that was his passion. 

“Don was a big supporter of entrepreneurial film producers and enthusiasts.  He lent his voice to our film trailers and responded to every correspondence I had with him”, said John Broughton, Executive Producer.  “Discussing the mundane life situations to new births, Don was a very personable guy.  He will be sorely missed.”

He has voiced hundreds of thousands of television and radio spots, including commercials for Chevrolet, Pontiac, Ford, Budweiser, McDonalds, Coke, and many other corporate sponsors. At last count, he has worked on nearly 5000 films, including appearances as the in-show announcer for the Screen Actors Guild and Academy Awards. Based on contracts signed, he has the distinction of being perhaps the single busiest actor in the history of SAG.

01 June 2008 - "Wrath of Con" Best Fan Film of 2008

Starship Farragut, was voted as the “Best Fan Film of 2008” at the Wrath of Con science fiction conference and film festival in Panama City Beach, Florida.  Starship Farragut won the award for its film “For Want of a Nail,” its second production based on the original Star Trek television series.

"For Want of a Nail" features Captain Jack Carter, played by John Broughton, and his valiant crew, who are flung back in time to witness a crucial moment in America’s history.

“We are so pleased to have been selected as Best Fan Film of 2008,” said Mark Hildebrand, director of the episode. “We wanted to create an adventure that would be enjoyed by fans and non-fans alike.  I believe that any story in the Star Trek universe should be thought-provoking and fun. I think we have achieved that goal.”

The 85-minute episode competed against six other sci-fi-based fan films at the three-day Wrath of Con convention. Conference organizer Rick Albritton of BrightStar Productions praised Farragut’s production. “‘For Want of a Nail’ sets a high standard for fan films, with solid writing, acting and high production values,” Albritton said. “The Starship Farragut team produced a compelling tale that is truly in a league of its own.”

14 April 2008 - NEO f/x and Farragut Films Journey to the Animated Frontier

PORTLAND, April 14, 2008 – NEO f/x and Farragut Films today officially announced a special, 2-episode release of Starship Farragut, The Animated Episodes. These new episodes are the first animated Star Trek to be produced since Filmation wrapped production of the original series in 1974. The video teaser for the new episodes is available online at the newly opened website, www.farragutanimated.com.

The two episodes chronicle the adventures of the U.S.S. Farragut, commanded by John T. Carter, and take place during what would have been fourth season of Star Trek. The U.S.S Farragut is a sister ship to the legendary Enterprise commanded by James T. Kirk. Episode one, penned by Michael Struck and Jack Treviño (co-writer of two Deep Space Nine episodes), is entitled “The Needs of the Many”. The second episode, “Power Source”, was written by Thomas J. Scott, an accomplished writer and president of Magique Productions, LTD.

“NEO f/x has now been involved with literally seven live-action fan productions based on Star Trek. We felt it was time for us to throw our hat in the ring with something no other fan production has attempted… cel-style animated episodes,” explained Michael Struck, manager of the NEO f/x team. “These animated episodes will be a tribute to the original Filmation animated series, and should be a real treat for the fans.”

“We were thrilled to collaborate with NEO f/x’s talented team once again to produce the first Star Trek animated fan film," said John Broughton, president of Farragut Films and Executive Producer of Starship Farragut. “It was an incredible experience to lend our voices to this outstanding, visually appealing piece of work that extends the tales of Starship Farragut's gallant crew. NEO f/x's one-stop, Total Media Package continues to be a great asset for us."

In addition to the primary actors from the live-action Starship Farragut series, the cast list includes celebrities from with ties to science fiction, anime and Star Trek: Chase Masterson (Leeta on Deep Space Nine) will be the primary guest star in “The Needs of the Many”, with Tim Russ (Tuvok on Voyager) making a special appearance. Chris Doohan (son of James Doohan, the original ‘Scotty’) will be voicing two characters his father made famous in the original series. In addition, most of the secondary males characters are being voiced by Vic Mignogna (the voice of Edward Elric on Fullmetal Alchemist). Additional voice talent featured in the episodes will include Hetoreyn, Jason LeBlanc, and Ralph M. Miller.

Behind the scenes, NEO f/x enlisted the assistance of various illustrators and artists, including Hetoreyn for music and Kail Tescar, webmaster of the premiere Star Trek animated series web site startrekanimated.com. Kail is the lead artist as well as the associate producer on the two animated Farragut episodes, and will also be releasing a comic book version of Starship Farragut when the animated episodes are released. “

"Since opening startrekanimated.com nine years ago, creating a full length episode of Star Trek: The Animated Series has been a dream of mine,” explained Kail. “I've been having a great time working on this project with NEO f/x and Farragut Films. It's been a lot of fun helping to create these episodes, and I hope everyone enjoys them."

The two episodes and comic book are now in production and will be released on the internet in 2009.
